Wavelengths

Altibox Carrier offer wavelength services across 17 cities in 8 countries, on our state of the art optical network. We have invested in the latest network technology, from market leading vendors, to underpin our service capability, and can offer 400Gbit/s client services on 100% of our network – with higher speeds to come. We have built key elements of our own network to provide the highest performance in terms of throughput, latency and resilience on our routes. We can tailor solutions to meet your needs – whether you are a Hyperscaler, a Telco or an Enterprise – it is a key part of our success to date. Altibox Carrier is part of the Lyse Energy group, a major Energy operator in the Nordics.

Why use Wavelengths?

Wavelengths are ideal for transporting large volumes of data across long or short distances, especially when that data has to meet strict delay or performance requirements. We use DWDM technology to carry multiple wavelengths of light (as different colours) over the same optical fibre across our network. Utilising the latest DWDM technology we can carry up to 800Gbit/s over a single wavelength across each of our major routes into and around the Nordics. With the next generation of DWDM technology we will be able to double this capacity.

What applications do wavelengths support?

Wavelength services support point to point connectivity at speeds up to 400Gbit/s, and are typically used to support transport of bandwidth intensive applications such as video, BC/DR (Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery), workload transfer and AI (Artificial Intelligence).

Because of the mission critical nature of most wavelength traffic some level of protection or resilience is required, so various options are available up to dual diverse links.

Network Coverage and Investment

  • We have invested extensively in our network over the past 4 years
  • We have built 3 key fibre routes: NO-UK from Stavanger to Newcastle; from Stavanger to Oslo and from Oslo to Hamburg
  • We offer the highest throughput and the lowest latency on our routes
  • We have PoPs in 17 key cities in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, UK, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium & Ireland
  • Our network PoPs are present in a number of Commercial DC locations, which enables us to provide access directly into key Cloud Providers at these PoPs
  • We are planning to build additional fibre routes within the Nordics and expand existing network to maximise our footprint

Typical Wavelength Use Cases

Wholesale

(Hyperscaler & Telco)

Long haul data transport typically across subsea and terrestrial routes and into/between key DataCentre (DC) and Cloud locations

Enterprise

DCI (Data Centre Interconnect), providing high speed, diverse connectivity between key DC locations

Enterprise

Cloud connectivity, enabling organizations to connect their key locations into the cloud and between cloud providers

Optional Services

Private Networks

We are seeing greater demand from key customer segments for bespoke, managed optical network solutions. We are able to work with our vendor partners to design solutions to meet a wide variety of needs. We are experienced in deployment & management of these types of bespoke solutions, across multiple countries.

Encryption

We are able to provide wavelength encryption solutions at up to 400Gbit/s. These conform to AES-256, FIPS-197 and FIPS 140-2, and provides customer management of encryption keys.
